Introducing VESPER: Four Voices in the Martial Age

Meet Sori, Rin, Mae and Sena: a rising performance group whose ambitions lead them toward the Assembly of Blades—and into Starfall’s wider martial world.

Starfall’s martial world needs more than opponents waiting for their next duel. Its towns have festivals, its travellers have favourite songs, and its characters should sometimes have a reason to stay out after the training yard closes.

That is where VESPER belongs.

Sori, Rin, Mae and Sena are a rising four-member performance group travelling the river-town circuit. They want to write, rehearse, perform and build an audience. Music is their ambition, not a disguise that disappears when the plot becomes serious.

Four people, not four versions of one character

Sori is the leader who must consider what a promising offer could cost everyone around her. Rin is the exacting dance captain who dislikes having her discipline dismissed. Mae brings words, connections and a fear of leaving someone behind. Sena is the composer who keeps questioning an arrangement after the others are ready to move on.

Their stage work brings them together. Their different priorities give them something to argue about afterward.

That distinction will shape their artwork too. A change of hair colour is not enough: faces, silhouettes, posture and expressions need to make each member recognisable. The ensemble illustration is an introduction, not a claim that every costume detail is final.

Pop-group energy inside Starfall’s world

VESPER takes creative inspiration from K-pop-style group presentation: strong individual identities, coordinated performances, ensemble vocals, rhythmic verses and memorable choreography.

Inside the story, they are simply VESPER. Their stages are river pavilions, inn platforms and festival courts. Backing musicians, portable instruments, handbills and word of mouth connect them to their audience.

They are not portrayals of real performers, and no real artist or group is attached to the project.

A different reason to reach the Assembly

The festival surrounding the Assembly of Blades could give VESPER an audience beyond the circuit that already knows them.

Mali wants recognition there too, but she hopes to earn it with her fighting. Their paths meet through those ambitions, through Neri’s familiarity with the group, and through the people who decide which talents deserve a public stage.

VESPER is not being inserted into the already-published opening pages. Its main introduction belongs later in the Assembly storyline. The opening challenge remains Mali’s story to carry.

Music lives here too

Their performances should be enjoyable even when no attack, clue or secret operation interrupts them. Rehearsal can be funny. An argument over a phrase can matter. A crowded room answering a refrain can give the reader something worth protecting when the story becomes dangerous again.

There are two working original song titles in development: Own My Name and After the Applause. They are not completed recordings or soundtrack releases.

For now, meet the four performers—and follow the martial world that will bring them to the Assembly.
