What his hands do
Panel 1
Mali lowers her travel bag and crouches beside Neri at the edge of the yard. She looks at her friend’s face. Neri’s injured right arm stays in its sling; Mali’s sabre stays sheathed at her left hip.
Mali: Did he beat you?
Neri: Yes.
Panel 2
Mali’s amusement gives way to a serious look.
Mali: Cleanly?
Panel 3
Neri looks away, irritated at a question she expected. Mali replies from off panel.
Neri: I hate that you’re asking.
Mali: That cleanly.
Panel 4
With her uninjured left hand, Neri briefly catches a fold of Mali’s ivory sleeve. Mali listens.
Neri: He keeps whatever you give him. Don’t give him your sleeve.
Panel 5
Silent panel. Teren brushes dust from his dark wrist wrap. The view holds on his heavy forearms and composed posture; there is no attack or supernatural effect.
No dialogue.
